Grace Vickers Rogers of Fort Walton Beach, FL., age 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday morning, June 25, 2009.

Grace was born on March 11, 1919, in Newton, AL., and lived there until the early years of her marriage.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Aubie Rogers, on October 13, 1935.  They were blessed with over 54 years of marriage.  During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Newton and Demopolis, AL, and Eustis, Leesburg, and Umatilla, FL.  When Aubie went into the Navy during WWII, the family moved with him to Jacksonville and Ft. Pearce, FL., and New Orleans, LA.  When he deployed overseas, Grace and the children moved back to Newton.  After the War, Aubie also returned to Newton and the family lived there until 1952 when they moved to Elba, AL., for two years, then to Panama City Beach for a year, and finally moving to and settling in Ft. Walton Beach in 1955.

Grace spent most of her adult years as a wife and homemaker.  However, she did work for a few years at the A & P. Supermarket and W.T. Grant Department Store, until she had to retire because of a back injury.  During her “retirement” years, Grace began taking art lessons and quickly progressed to the point she was asked to assist her art teacher.  Later, she and Aubie opened their own art studio where she taught many students for many years.  Aubie found his niche teaching macramé and framing artwork.

Grace was a very beautiful, quintessential southern lady—gracious, charming, hospitable, generous, kind, compassionate and loving.
