ODESSA NADINE (BOYER) HOCKETT
Odessa Nadine Boyer, number 4 of 5 children born to Leo Roy and Olive Geneva
(Bjork) Boyer, was born July 9, 1928. Her Dad always kidded her, “You kept me up
all night and then I had to go to the wheat harvest field and you weren’t a boy”.
Nadine did her best to not disappoint her Dad by being the “tom boy” of the
family. Nadine was born on her grandparent’s homestead in Thomas County,
Kansas. She lived on the family farm until graduating from high school.
Upon graduation, she attended Fort Hays State College to earn her teaching
certificate. After receiving her certificate, she taught for 2 years in a one room
country school where she met her husband Donald Eugene Hockett. They
married August 7, 1949, where 65 years of married life together began.
With this union two children, Ricky Lynn and Geneva Lea made their happy family
complete. Through those years Don’s job moved them to several different states.
In 1964 they moved to the Hockett farm where they lived the next 14 years.
During this time all 4 of them found Christ as their personal Savior and life
changed in a mighty way to live for the Lord.
Don and Nadine moved to Colorado Springs in 1978 where they continued their
walk with the Lord. A few years later both of their children followed. Nadine
worked at Penrose Hospital for several years and then at Joslin’s Department
Store until her retirement.
One of Nadine’s many highlights was hosting a prayer breakfast for 14 years
starting with the ladies from Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and increased
to include many other very close friends.
Not only doing her best to be a good mother, Nadine’s greatest joy was being a
Grandmother and Great Grandmother to 8 grandsons and 11 great grandsons.
She passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022 and will be greatly missed by all.
