Odell (Jack) Plylar age 99, went to Heaven on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Odell was born at his home on Spruce Pine Mountain in Russellville, AL on November 17, 1921 to Thomas Burton Plylar and Nancy Frances (Guthrie) Plylar. Odell lived in Russellville until he joined the Conservation Corp (CC’s).
Odell held a strong faith in God. He was a loving husband and father. He met the love of his life, Betty in 1951. He was married on May 29, 1953. Odell has always told us, ”From the first time I saw her I said this is the gal for me.” Odell met Betty on a blind date set up between their friends and they went to the stock car races. They saw each other every day since that time. Officially they enjoyed 67 years of marriage but knew each other close to 70 years.
Odell enjoyed retirement for close to 30 years. Prior to retirement he worked in the trucking industry. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He put his whole life and soul into those he loved.
Odell was known by everyone as Jack. Jack loved his dogs and was a nature lover. Although he loved all animals, the dog was his absolute favorite. He spent many a day on the campground. He really enjoyed a good potato that was baked in the hot coals of the campfire.
Odell (Jack) is survived by his daughter Peggy, granddaughter Jessica and husband Carey, and great grandchildren Savannah, Nathan and Isaac.
All of this friends and neighbors loved him. When hearing of his death they were speechless and many choked up. A friend said that “Jack has impacted so many lives with his positive outlook on life and love of his country”.
His family is devastated over their loss. Odell (Jack) is much loved and is missed by all. Our only comfort is that he is now with the Lord.
