Octavia “Peg” Sakel, age 97, of DeMotte, IN formerly of Huntingburg, Indiana passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Oakgrove Christian Retirement Village in DeMotte, Indiana. She was born October 14, 1912 in Stendal, Indiana to Benjamin H. and Emma (Reibold) Patberg. She was united in marriage to Maurice Sakel in 1933.
Peg was a retired elementary school teacher who received her bachelor’s degree from Oakland City College and her master’s degree from Indiana University. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Huntingburg United Methodist Church, and the Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Maurice Sakel, who died in 1977; and one sister, Matella Nass. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lary (Tracie) Sakel – DeMotte, IN. By (1) step grandson, (3) step great grandchildren, and (1) step great-great grandchild.
