OCTAVIA ROOKER ROGERS was born in Ragland, Alabama, on January 2, 1922, and went on to Glory on February 20, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ewart Rogers, her parents, Vera Lee Rooker and Joseph Franklin Rooker, Sr., and four sisters, Mary Frances Rooker, Annie Rooker Foushee, Mildred Rooker, and Gertrude Rooker Parker. She is survived by another sister Vera Jo Rooker Friend (Atlanta area) and brother, Joseph Franklin Rooker, Jr. of Gardendale. Octavia is survived by her two daughters, Linda C. Rogers and Karen Rogers Quinlin (Tom), in addition to four grandchildren, Rachel Patterson (Armour), Joseph Franklin Quinlin (Allison), Rebekah Curry (Caleb) and Will Quinlin. Joe and Allie gifted her with two great grandchildren, Truman and Zion Quinlin. Rebekah and Caleb gifted her with two beautiful granddaughters, Hope and Hannah Curry.

Octavia and her family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, when she was one or two years old, where she remained for a few years after marriage. Before marriage, Octavia briefly dabbled in modelling but then pursued secretarial/administrative work. As in most everything else Octavia attempted, her efforts resulted in excellence when being appointed the first female Director of Administrative Services for the primary contractor of the Nevada Test Site, with offices in Las Vegas, where she retired. During that period of time she was also awarded “Woman of the Year” award by the American Business Women’s Association, Las Vegas.

Octavia’s life achievements were always followed by her true desires – in serving the Kingdom of God (she was a teacher, church secretary, church clerk and Sunday School Superintendent) and her family. She was the best mother one could hope for and will be tremendously missed.
