Yvonne Sinibaldi passed on peacefully October 26, 2010 with her family supporting her and loving her as she had done for them throughout her life. Yvonne”s clever wit and her concern for others will be greatly missed.
Her life began humbly in Berlin, NH. She was part of a large family and learned early on how to plan and prepare to be self-sufficient. When still a child, her family moved to the Hill Rd in West Bath, ME. Yvonne spent her early youth there attending school at a one room school house. In her teens she moved back to the Berlin area to work and unknown to her at the time, to meet her future husband (Ettere Aldo Sinibaldi a” fondly known as “Ted”). They courted and in 1939 were married. She had a plan.
They were in the grocery business in Berlin with Ted”s brother but the pull of family in the Bath area drew her back home. Ted and Yvonne settled in Bath at 13 Charles St. Ted working at the Hyde Windless and Yvonne beginning her career of mother, homemaker and helper for many families in the Bath area. Together in 1947 they opened a store “Sinibaldi”s” at the corner of Part St and 1312 Washington St in Bath. Around this time they moved to 1330 Washington St to a much larger and comfortable home. Yvonne had a plan. Both Ted and Yvonne worked many hours and the locals all knew where they could go for their grocery needs. Yvonne would take her infant daughter to work and keep her in a basket under the counter. Cash was not always readily available in those days but Yvonne and Ted were there to help and serve. They made sure that people didn”t” go without. A sign in the store read “No Credit” but it didn”t always apply.
Life got better for her and her family and they were able to acquire a “camp” on the New Meadows Rd at Foster”s Point. Being near to the Catholic Nuns summer retreats was important to Yvonne. Her faith and belief in GOD and her love for the Catholic way of life sustained her for many years. Summers at camp was a “rustic” experience and truly a life changing time for the young family.
