Bath – Yvette Bernadette Picard Small, 92 of Lincoln St. died Friday November 13, 2009 in Bath.
Born in Brunswick, daughter of Amedee and Emerilda Picard. Yvette graduated from Brunswick High School in 1934 and from Mount Merici in 1936.
She was employed by a Personal Finance Company and attended tax seminars to prepare taxes for their clients. This began her tax-consulting career, which she carried on for sixty years.
Married Charles T. Small in June 1940. He died in 1984.
Yvette was an active participant in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Plant Memorial Auxiliary. the past President of the Huse P.T.A., the Bath P.T.A. Council, Rotary Anne, Inner Wheel, Cosmopolitan Garden Club, St. Mary’s Sodality and the Cosmopolitan Club. She also volunteered for 14 years in the coffee shop of the Bath Hospital and was a member of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary. For many years she cooked for the local soup kitchen. She was the Secretary and Vice-President for Bath Area Senior Citizens and Coasters.
Yvette was honored by the Maine Federation of Women’s club as a 60-year member of the Cosmopolitan club. She was also a member of the Bath Business and Professional Women. The BBPW presented her with an award for community service and volunteerism.
She was named in the book “Prominent Personalities in the Maine Federation of Women’s club.”
Yvette was the past chairman on the Salvation Army Board and received a certificate of membership “Emeritus” having served for over 25 years. She acted as the co-chairman for fundraising efforts for the new building.
The Emblem Club named Yvette women of the year.
She was a past member of Royal River Chapter of Sweet Adeline’s and a member of the St. Mary’s Choir for over 30 years. She was chosen St. Mary’s mother of the year in 1999.
She was past President of the Mount Merici Alumni. Yvette was co-chairman for the fundraising efforts for their new school and convent.
Yvette enjoyed her family, friends, flower gardens and doing for others.
She is predeceased by her husband, Charles T. Small; and two sons, Joseph Seth Small who died November 8, 1997 and Gerald T. Small who died Jan. 23, 2009.
She is survived by a daughter, Commander Colette Kokron currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq and her husband Lt. Com. Edwin J. Kokron of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandsons, Joseph C.E. Small and Justin T. Small, and a granddaughter, Michelle Small, all of Bath.
