William W. Holt, Jr., 96 Longwood, Florida and Higgins Beach, Maine –
William Watson Holt, Jr., of Longwood, FL and Higgins Beach, ME peacefully passed surrounded by his family on August 16, 2013. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on May 18th, 1917. Bill was a graduate of the Tampa Jesuit High School and the Georgia Tech class of 1942 with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his Civilian Pilot License in ’41 and proudly enlisted in the R.O.T.C as a 2nd Lt and served as Captain in active duty in Air Corps Reserve from 1942 to 1946. Bill attended the Air Force Engineering School, Class-45C and was stationed at the Air Material Command, Armament Lab, Wright Field in Dayton, OH where he accumulated 2000 hours as a 1st Pilot including 1200 hours on 4-engine aircraft. As a performance test-pilot, Bill was qualified in 67 Air Force fighters, bombers, trainers and cargo aircraft including the most notable Northrup N-9M-B and YP-80 flying wings. Bill remained in Active Reserves at Marietta, GA from 1946 to 1950.
Bill married Elizabeth (Gailmard), “Betty”, April 22nd, 1950 in Tampa, Florida and began his career with Plantation Pipeline (ESSO) in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1966 he transferred to ESSO Europe in London, England where Bill and his family relocated to Purley, England. As head of pipeline engineering for the TransEuropean Pipleline, he and his family traveled extensively in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. In 1973, Bill was transferred to Portland, Maine as head of the engineering division of Portland Pipeline (Exxon) retiring in 1984.
Bill was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He instilled strong family values, integrity, respect, honesty and hard work in his sons and family.
