William E. Phelps
Portland formerly of Lansing and Six Lakes
Age 81, passed away on May 21, 2006. He was born on October 23, 1924 in Gleason, TN the son of A.G. and Olga (Butler) Phelps. William was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lansing and attended Entrican Bible Church. He retired from the Lansing Country Club and in 1986 moved to Lake Montcalm. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. William is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Genie, Roland, and Bobbie Phelps and sister, Sue Phelps. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nellie Jean “Mickey” and his sons Art (Jo) Phelps of Portland, Gary (Sue) Phelps of Mason, Scott (Lynn) Phelps of Lansing; Grandchildren Matthew Phelps of California, Adam and Emma Phelps of Portland, Michael and Bradley Phelps of Mason, Steve Rux and Crystal Mead of Lansing and Stacy and Robert Secord of Lansing; Great Grandchildren Becky, Misty, Dakota, Kyla, and Little Bob; brothers Ted (Sue) Phelps of Gleason TN and Jack (Rubye) Phelps of Gleason TN along with numerous nieces and nephews.
