William “Bill” F. Shaw, Jr., age 98, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 12:30 am Friday, March 27, 2020, at his son’s home.
William was born on August 15, 1921, in Hannibal, MO, the son of William F. and Ruth (Mackison) Shaw, Sr.
He was united in marriage to Bernadine “Bernie” Schwartz on April 25, 1946, in Villa Ridge, MO. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2016.
Survivors include his children, Steven Shaw and wife Emily of Lake Ozark, MO, Sharon Hoffmann of St. Charles, MO, and Barb O’Brien and Tommy Eddy of Hannibal, MO; sister, Betty Lake and husband Larry of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren, Derek O’Brien, Ashley O’Brien, Brittni Deardeuff (Ethan), Justin Shaw, Danny Hoffmann (Kristen), Chris Hoffmann (Elizabeth), and Leah O’Donnell (Patrick); nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Shaw and two grandsons, George Clayton V, and Chase Shaw.
William proudly served his country as a Corporal in the Army Air Force in the 451st. Aero Squadron stationed in Italy during WWII.
Professionally Bill worked at Continental Cement from 1947-1982.
William was a diehard Cardinals fan and rarely missed listening to a game or watching it on TV. Away from work Bill enjoyed doing yard work and always kept his lawn immaculate. Bill enjoyed traveling and always treasured family trips across the United States while his children were still at home. He and wife also enjoyed going on short trips to Branson, the Lake of the Ozarks, and to Lost Valley Resort. William was simple man and enjoyed his daily trips to the Pick-A-Dilly and Walgreens were he was known by the workers as “Sweet William.”
Mr. Shaw was a member of the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 and Holy Family Catholic Church.
