William “Bill” Bernard Dutcher

William B. Dutcher, age 91, of Portland passed away December 1, 2016. William was born August 13, 1925 to Sylvester and Bernita (Simmons) Dutcher. He was the first mail carrier in Portland and worked for the Portland Post Office for over 35 years and was a farmer. Bill was a sports fanatic who loved the Tigers, U of M, and the Redwings. He enjoyed fishing with his long-time friend, Dick Willemin and was an avid reader of his beloved Detroit News. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Bill married his wife, Joyce (Townsend) on July 29, 1948. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marylin Balderson; and brother-in-law, Richard Bigford. Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce (Townsend) Dutcher; children, MaryKay (George) Johnson, Patrick Dutcher, Douglas Dutcher, and Nancy (David) Spitzley; grandchildren, Johnathon Johnson, Colin Hoppes, and Nicholas Hoppes; great-grandchildren, Landon, Haven, and Cruze Hoppes; sister Ellen Bigford; and brother-in-law, Tom Balderson.
