Wilho J. “Bill” Koskiniemi, age 85, longtime resident of Hibbing and formerly of Eveleth, died Tuesday at home. He was born October 25, 1923 in Biwabik, MN, the son of John and Liami (Laurila) Koskiniemi. On June 26, 1948 he married Dorothy Lind at the First Lutheran Church in Virginia, MN. and was an Army veteran of WWII.
Bill was employed as a welder with Abe Mathews and Eveleth Taconite retiring after more than 20 years of service. He s a member of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing, Mesaba Lodge #255 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Hibbing and Duluth, the AAD Temple Shrine of Duluth; the Shrine Motor Patrol and the Range Shrine Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter; and also enjoyed bowling in the Monday Morning Senior League and golfing.
He is survived by his daughters: Judy (Alan) Rocchio of Duluth, MN, Darlene (Dean) Hunziker of Ames, IA, and Elaine (Jeff) Opacich of Duluth, MN; grandchildren: Lee, Tracy, Brent, Eric, Heidi, Aaron, Melissa, Tim, and Jon; great-grandchildren: Miles, Isabella, Austin, Gavin, Justin, and Jason; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Dorothy; and brothers: Leonard and Wilbert.
Casketbearers will be Bill’s grandsons: Lee, Aaron, Tim, Jon, and sons-in-law: Alan and Jeff.
