Wayne G. Gower of Ridgely, MD, passed away at the Compass Hospice in Centreville, MD on Thursday, June 23, 2022. He was 76 years old.
Born on May 13, 1946, in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Franklin and Verna Gower of Quakertown, PA. He was a 1964 graduate of Quakertown High School, PA and partially attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. Wayne retired from Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD where he had worked for many years.
Wayne was a Jack of all trades and a master of most. Along with working at often two jobs, he also built two homes, one in PA and one in MD. He began his career as a Master Machinist, working in Quakertown, PA, Allentown, PA and Bethlehem, PA. Wayne switched careers to farming, raising and showing purebred breeding hogs in Lehighton, PA. The breeding stock competed nationally and held the high breeding stock award in Pennsylvania for two years in a row. He moved the family to Maryland, working in a variety of occupations, including waste management systems for livestock farms, and the creation of a horse feed, Boost & Bloom that was sold to racing horses on the Delmarva Peninsula. Finally, Wayne worked at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills as a maintenance worker, carpenter, and security guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Glendora Schueck and a son, Michael Gower.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Cynthia Gower of Ridgely, MD, brother, Clark Gower of Quakertown, PA, two devoted children, Mathew Gower of Ridgely, MD, Marla Snyder of Dallas, GA, six amazing grandchildren, one adorable great-granddaughter and four nieces.
