Warren James Hagen was born in Roseau, MN, on September 24, 1948, to Arlyn and Thelma (Dahlgren) Hagen. He graduated from Roseau High School in 1966 and attended Bemidji State University. In 1969, Warren was drafted into the US Army. He married his high school sweetheart, Marsha Kvarnlov, on July 5, 1969. Following his training in Augusta, Georgia, Warren and Marsha were transferred to S.H.A.P.E. Headquarters in Mons, Belgium. They lived in Belgium until their first daughter, Paula, was born in 1972. In the spring of 1972, they moved back to Roseau, where Warren began his career in farming. His passion for farming was evident by his meticulously maintained farm, lawn and gardens. In 1989, Warren won the Roseau County Clean Farm Contest.
Warren battled Multiple Sclerosis since 1979 and retired from farming in 1990. He did not let his MS diagnosis stop him from many hobbies including stained glass and gardening, and in his earlier years, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Warren was a 50-year member of The American Legion-Post 24 of Roseau. He was actively involved with the MS Society for many years, raising money for MS research. Warren was also on the Farmers Union Board of Directors for several years. Warren was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was instrumental in the stained glass window project.
In 2008, Warren and Marsha purchased a lake home at Rocky Point on Lake of the Woods where they enjoyed many summers with family and friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Warren rarely missed a sporting event or program involving his grandchildren. Warren was a true Roseau Ram fan. You could always find Warren at Memorial Arena in the northeast corner in his favorite spot next to the glass. Warren was involved with the Roseau Leaf Hockey Program and also helped coach Roseau Youth Hockey. He had a love/hate relationship with the Minnesota Vikings!
