Walter W. Rice, 91, of Bristol, passed away March 29 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta following a brief illness. He was born in South Bristol, December 19, 1920, the son of Parker and Maude (Robinson) Rice. Walter lived in the South Bristol/Bristol area all of his life, attending local schools. On July 3, 1941, he married the love of his life, Audrey Woodward, and shared 69 years with her. Walter served two tours of duty during World War II, first in Germany and then in the Philippines. Upon his return, he worked with his father in the local shipyards and then started his own lumber business along with his brother Mervin, continuing to work in the woods for many years alongside his son. Walter is often remembered for his many years of Postal service, delivering mail from Damariscotta to Pemaquid Point with his wife. He was a life-long member of the Leuign W. Osier Post, No. 8395 and could be found many Monday nights running their fund raising BEANO’s.
