Walter Rudolph Wyss III, (Walt), 96, of Georgetown, Maine, passed away January 13, 2023.
Walter R. Wyss, son of Walter R. Wyss II and Lureia (Seaver) Wyss born October 24, 1926, in Flint Michigan. Walts Mother passed away when he was 4 years old.
Walt passed away in the loving arms of his wife Dee while under Hospice care at the Brunswick, ME MidCoast Hospital just as preparations were being made for his ride home to their beloved coastal home in Georgetown, ME.
Walt spent his young life in Flint, MI. the third of three children.
Walt returned to Saginaw, MI. to attend Alma College, Alma MI. to major in Pre-Engineering transferring to Michigan State University, East Lansing MI with a B.A. Major in Marketing. Walt was President of the Marketing Club. Later after he had started his career he attended the Shelter Institute, Bath, ME. for Owner Builder School.
While attending Alma College Walt met Delores (Dee) A. Golombeck in 1948. Walt and Dee married on September 2, 1950. SEVENTY-TWO years later the love and devotion between these two has been witnessed continually until the last when Walt went on to his heavenly home.
Walt took a position with AlCOA Aluminum April 1, 1952, where he managed all Alcoa Products sales for Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Nebraska tripling sales in Denver and made significant in-roads on 2 major accounts and increased sales over double in a ten-year period. Walt and Dee lived in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, and Maine during these years of occupation and travel. Together they also became actively involved in purchasing land, land development and construction of homes and barns.
The greatest joy of their marriage came with the birth of their son Scott Walter on March 1, 1952, born in Lansing, MI.
Walt and Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping together. Walt also enjoyed hiking the mountains of Arizona and Colorado where he was active in 4 different hiking clubs. When not hiking he was biking or harvesting fruit weekly. To his many achievements the four hikes to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to camp with the Indians were some of his greatest. Walt was also a member of Rotary.
Walt retired in 1982 and together with Dee, pursued a love of the Maine Coast where they purchased several acres of Georgetown coastal land and self-designed, built, and finished a true craftsman’s Contemporary Cape Timber Frame home and shop.
Walter is survived by the love of his life Dee, Nephew James Doehring, Niece Beth VerDorn, Great Niece Debra St. James, Chosen Nieces Christa Lira, Wendy Wood, and many friends that have become like family.
Walter was preceded in death by their son Scott in 1970. His parents, Sisters Helen Hoisington, Wanita Hopkins and Stepbrother Robert Stuart.
