Walter Krahn, the son of Anna (Heppner) and George Krahn, was born on September 23, 1923 in Lostwood, North Dakota. He moved with his family to the Warroad, MN area in 1935. He attended school in Swift, MN and later Warroad. In 1938, his father died, so Walter started working on the farm. He also worked at the Swift feed mill and the Hartz store as a meat cutter.

After he and Estelle (Searle) were married on December 31, 1945; Walter began working at Marvins Hardware before starting his career as a Salesman for Marvin Windows and Doors in 1948, and continueing until his retirement in 1985 after 37 years of service. He worked hard at his job and not only opened several new sales territories but also mentored many of the younger sales people and repair crews as the company grew.

After retiring, he and Estelle spent much of their winters in Arizona, where Walter enjoyed hikingand exploring the nearby deserts and mountains.
