Virginia Phillips McMullen, former long-time resident of Meridian, Mississippi, died peacefully surrounded by friends and family on April 25, 2019 in Fayette, Alabama. Her life’s journey began on September 25, 1922 in Leake County, Mississippi, daughter of Ruth and Roy Phillips. She was predeceased by her parents and all eight of her siblings. She was also predeceased by the love of her life, Marshall Aaron McMullen Sr., and by their son Gerald. She is survived by her son, Marshall Aaron McMullen Jr. (Betty) of Charleston, West Virginia, grandson Patrick McMullen of Cincinnati, Ohio, and special friend and guardian angel Shae Withers of Winfield, Alabama, who Virginia referred to as her “granddaughter.” Following her high school graduation, Virginia attended business college in Meridian where she lived with her loving aunt, Nellie Brown. During World War II, Virginia boarded a train to Washington, D.C.
