Virginia Gaynelle Edwards gained her wings on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

Virginia was born on (Easter Sunday) April 12, 1936 in Richton, MS to Gabe and Vera Newell. She was a Navy wife and mother to Debra and Douglas. She worked as a registered nurse and retired from Singing River Hospital Labor and Delivery.  She was of the Catholic faith. Her favorite food was desserts, particularly “Tulie’s” key lime pie, milky way candy bars, & ice cream. She loved Elvis, Barry Manilow, and music in general. After Hurricane Katrina, she moved in with her granddaughter Kelly & grand son-in-law Chuck in Mobile, AL.  Kelly & Virginia attended numerous concerts over the years. Virginia’s personality was a little on the spicy side, but we all need a little spice in life and she did not disappoint.  Her presence, humor, and spice will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Colon Edwards; children, Debra Gayle and Douglas Wilson Edwards; siblings, Ottis Hardee Newell, Darlene “Doe-day” Newell and Albert S. “Billy” Newell.

Virginia is survived by three grandchildren, Kelly Tate (Chuck) of Mobile, AL; Hayley Stilwell (Mark) of Mobile, AL; and Colin Edwards (Whitney) of Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Camille “Bop” Green and Catherine “Sue” Carey; great- grandchildren, Adam Stilwell, Hugh Edwards and Wade Edwards; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
