Virginia Dorothy Carney, 87, of Steelville passed away Saturday evening, May 5, 2007 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born Friday, June 20, 1919 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Randolph Lafayette and Louise (Hoddee) Frazee. Virginia was united in marriage to Russell John Carney on September 21, 1957 in St. Louis and to this union four children were born.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Russell; two daughters, Kathleen Sweet and husband Charles of Pevely, Mo. and Christine Carney of Summerfield, Florida; one sister, Marguerite Conway of Steelville; two grandchildren, Karen Michelle and Rachael Marie Sweet; and brother and sister-in-law Gene and Flo Carney of St. Louis, Mo.

 She was preceded in death by one son, Patrick John Carney and one daughter, Debbie Sacco; one brother, Warren Frazee; two sisters, Helen Lane and Genevieve Wright; and three brothers-in-law, Bill Conway, Albert Lane, and James Wright.

Virginia had worked as a secretary in civil service for the U.S. government in St. Louis. She had the distinction of having served as a U.S. Marine from June 1943 to November 1945, being discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville.
