Victoria Ruby Erickson was born May 29, 1926 at home in Deer Township near Strathcona, MN. She was the oldest of six children born to Robert and Esther (Kimble) Erickson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Victoria attended country school until eighth grade and graduated from Greenbush High School. She went on to school and received a teaching degree.

She met a handsome young man, Selmer Waage who lived close to that country school where she taught and soon married him. That ended her teaching career.  She became a housewife… which turned into helping on the farm, working on the sawmill, being foster parents, being active in church, having a daughter, Eileen and helping raise her three nephews, Greg, Craig and Mark.

They lived on Selmer’s parents’ farm that Gust homesteaded when he came from Norway. They were members of the Zion Lutheran Church that was close to their home in Barnett Township. When Zion closed, she was an active member of United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush.

Victoria is survived by her daughter Eileen Waage, granddaughter Tanya (Mark) Glad, great grandchildren Andrew Glad and Jordan Glad, son-in-law Stan Melby, all of Greenbush, sister-in-laws Roma Erickson and Ruby Erickson of Thief River Falls. Also several Godchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and her Roseau Life Care Manor family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Selmer in 1998, grandson Kurt Melby in 2013, her parents, brothers Kenneth Erickson and Milton Erickson, sisters Lillian Howdahl, Mae Borreson and Jeanette Kasprowicz. Victoria was the oldest of the six siblings, seeing them all born and all pass away.

Victoria lived her whole life on the Waage farm and spent the last few years in Life Care Roseau Manor. She passed away there peacefully on Wednesday evening December 28, 2022 with family by her side at the age of 96 years and 7 months. God bless the memories!!
