Vernon Quern, 92, of Oslo, MN, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Albert Vernon Quern was born on November 4, 1918 in Polk County, MN, the son of Carlot and Ellen (Syrstad) Quern and grew up on the family farm south of Oslo. Vernon married Florence Hawkinson on August 31, 1941 in Oslo. Shortly after, he was drafted into the US Army and served with the field artillery battalion in Europe during World War II. Following his discharge in 1945, he farmed with his brother Kenneth, raising small grains and sugar beets in the Oslo area until his retirement in 1985. In 1986, he and Florence moved from their farm to a new home in Oslo.
