Age 80, passed away on May 30, 2012. Vernice was born on March 18, 1932 in Lansing the daughter of Wilson H. and Alice D. (Betz) Winnie. She married Richard Arlen Payne on March 24, 1950 and he preceded her death on September 10, 2001 after 51 years of marriage. Vernice retired from the Ionia Manor after many years of service. She had attended Penticostal Churches throughtout her life. In addition to her parents and husband, Vernice was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Maddox; brothers Edwin “Eddie” Winnie, Wilson Winnie, Jr., Douglas Winnie, Robert Winnie, Kenneth “Kenny” Winnie; sisters Violet May Crandell and Winona Dyer. Vernice is survived by six children Richard Payne of Greenville, Linda Witherell of Lowell, Timothy Payne of Portland, George Payne of Benzonie, MI, Debbie (Scott) Warner of Stanton and Christine (David) Smith of Lyons; 28 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister, Bertha “Bert” Coats.
