Twyla Blackamore, of Burnsville, formerly of Omaha, NE made her final transition on October 29, 2020 after a courageous six-year battle with three aggressive cancers and Multiple Sclerosis.
She was born on June 13, 1961 to the late Warner L. Blackamore and Mary Ellen (Long) Blackamore in Omaha, NE. Twyla was the third of six children, a position she referred to as “most special.” A member of Faith Temple Church of God and Christ in Omaha, Twyla actively maintained her relationship with God and always displayed her faith through her actions; she considered herself a prayer warrior and a soldier of God.
Twyla attended Burke High School and later graduated from Metro Tech in 1978. After graduation, she attended Capitol Cosmetology school. She then worked at a nursing home in Omaha and later for Omaha public schools. Upon her move to Minnesota, Twyla worked in St. Paul Public School District as a special education teacher’s aide, and later for Naomi Family Center in St. Paul as an advocate for women and families. She then followed her passion for beauty and elegance and became co-owner of We Do Weddings. Twyla’s compassion, respect, and integrity touched many people in different ways through the years.
In life, Twyla cherished most of all her two sons and her parents. When Twyla was on your side, you could never fail. As she would say “when God is with you, who could be against you.” She will be remembered as everyone’s cheerleader and advocate, the sunshine of the room and life of the party. Those who love her will miss the stories of her adventures, and her persistent faith in what, and who, she believes in.
Twyla is preceded in her transition by her parents. She leaves behind two beloved sons, JacQue and Gabriel Blackamore, siblings: Yacawana Denise Blackamore, Bomani Kamau Blackamore, LaVora Valencia Blackamore, Courtney Deandra Blackamore, and Coeta Denell Blackamore; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
