Mrs. Avera, age 88, of Meridian, passed away May 8, 2023, at Rush Hospital.
Tommie was born in Meridian, Mississippi to a loving, blended family. In high school, she was very athletic and loved basketball and riding horses. Tommie married her husband, Bobby, in 1953 and together they raised their three boys. While raising her children, Tommie went to nursing school to become an LPN. She loved helping people, but her greatest love was for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived her sons, Kenneth D. Avera and his wife, Jan, Donald Keith Avera and Kevin Douglas Avera; grandchildren, Chay Annice Barnes and her husband, Jeff, Chris Avera, Sarah Avera Thrower and her husband, Hunter, Olivia Avera and Paden Avera; great-granddaughter, Holland Elaine Thrower; sister, Elaine McCary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Avera; her parents, Thomas and Karleen Boswell; brother, Renelle Hall, RG Boswell, Horace Sidney Boswell, William Ray Boswell and Dewayne “Bud” Boswell, as well as several half brothers and sisters.
