Thomas S. Warden Sr., 81, passed away on February 12, 2014 at Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Portland on July 23, 1932 to the late Ethel Mae Murray and Ivan Schley Warden. He spent his younger years on Munjoy Hill and moved to South Portland as a teenager and attended South Portland Schools. At a young age he ventured out to sea as a Merchant Seaman before serving in the Army from Feb. 1953 to Feb. 1955 in Japan. In 1956 he married Patricia Dixon and they raised 3 children Linda, Dianne and Thomas (Bo) Jr. Tom’s love for the sea continued when he began work for the Portland Pilots and then with Moran Tugboats as a deck hand and then as chief engineer, retiring in 2000. Tom will be remembered for his kind and giving ways – always lending a hand when needed. He loved people and had a gift when it came to relationships with others.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, his step-father Henry Brooks, his brother Robert in 1975, his brother Richard in 2008 and his sister, Eloise Willis in 2013. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his children, Linda Brewster and husband Jim of Cumberland, Dianne Reynolds and husband Craig of Clearwater, Florida and Thomas (Bo) Warden Jr. and his partner, Christine Gammon of Greenwood. He is also survived by his brother Ivan (Betty) of Raymond and 3 sisters, Eleanor Saville of Phoenixville, Pa., Audrey Schofield (Bill) of Caribou and Debbie DeRaps of Franklin as well as 6 grandchildren, Ryan Brewster (Brandy) of Louisville, Ky.
