Thomas Albert (Tom) Powers, 85, died unexpectedly on April 24, 2015 at his home in Portland. He was born on December 20, 1929 in Portland the son of the late Alphonse and Gertrude Powers.

Tom joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served five years on the U.S. Rochester, a heavy cruiser. Some of his service time was during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged, having a love of the sea, he joined the Merchant Marines. For forty-two years, he sailed all over the world seeing places we could only dream of. Upon his retirement, Tom came back to his home town of Portland. Tom was very happy during his retirement years. He treated everyone he knew or met for the first time with kindness and respect. He lived the fullest life possible. Tom is resting in peace with the knowledge that he was a good man. He will be sadly missed by the people who knew and loved him.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard, John, Ronald, Francis, and his sisters, Theresa Lamoin and Alice Peaslee.

He is survived by his brother, Michael (Mike) and his wife, Dorothy (Dottie) Powers of Westbrook and a sister, MaryAnn Farr of Windham and several nieces, nephews and their families.
