T. LeRoy Nelson, 84, of rural Argyle, MN, passed away early Sunday morning, November 29, 2020 at Altru Hospital of natural causes in Grand Forks, ND.
Thomas LeRoy Nelson was born on February 29, 1936 in Parker Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Vary) Nelson. As a young boy, he blocked sugar beets and planted row crops for a local farmer. LeRoy married Carolyn Harstad on November 5, 1955. She passed away on August 19, 1965. He married Lucille Hipsher on August 7, 1967. He was a life long farmer who also worked on the big school in Hibbing, for Midland in Stephen, sold Fuller Brushes and in 1960, LeRoy went to work for Kielty Motors in Grand Forks. In 1968, he was promoted to new car sales manager until 1974 when he retired and started farming full time. LeRoy retired from farming in 2000.
He was a life long member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen and served on the Fork Township Board for 43 years starting in 1977.
LeRoy enjoyed farming and living in the country. He loved cars and remembered the smallest details of the various models. He passed his love of automobiles onto his sons and they all enjoyed collecting cars. The Nelson men were known for enjoying a ride around the countryside in one of their collector cars enjoying the day.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Lucille; four children, Lee (Kris) Nelson, Keith (Terri) Nelson, Jerry Nelson and Ken (Becky) Nelson; son-in-law, Ken Frank; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (Doris) Nelson and Gary Nelson; sister, Alice Knutson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death his parents; son, Lonnie; daughter, Sherrie Frank; two grandchildren, Jeff Nelson and Lily Nelson; three brothers, Lawrence, LaVerne and Duane and three sisters, Marion, Hazel and Eileen.
