BOWDOIN – Stephen Lee Haining, 68, of Bowdoin, Maine, passed away on January 4, 2015 at his home.  Born January 17, 1946 in Bath, Maine, he was the son of Philip and Eleanor (Woodman) Haining.   He was a graduate of Brunswick High School.  He was a veteran of the US Army and served in South Korea.   After his military service Steve began work at Bath Iron Works retiring in 2002.   Following his retirement from BIW, Steve worked part time for Simply Unique of Bowdoin, which left him time his passion of woodcarving.

Growing up on Merrymeeting Bay Steve was an avid sportsman and enthusiastic duck hunter.  He was a fervent supporter of the conservation of Merrymeeting Bay and recognized it as a unique resource.  He was well known locally for his hand carved decoys for which he received several awards.   He was also a member of several local rod and gun clubs.   He simply loved the life that Maine had to offer.

Steve is survived by his longtime partner Doreen Boucher, mother Eleanor Haining,  daughters Alisa Slaugh and husband Mark and Melissa Albee, both of Utah, several grandchildren and nephews, sisters Holly (Haining) Zulieve and husband Andrew,  Judy (Haining) Manker and husband Andy.  Steve will be deeply missed by Doreen’s family, Dorcas (Mattor) Lizanecz and husband Pete of Benton, Diane (Mattor) Martin and husband Danny of Sinclair, and all of Doreen’s nieces and nephews.
