Stanley Keith Morrow (Stan) was born on June 27, 1936, in Dexter Minnesota to his parents Aurville and Sarah (Sally Stenerson) Morrow. He passed away peacefully on August 26, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato Minnesota at the age of 86. For several years Stan had a series of health issues which became more debilitating over the past year.
Stan grew up in Dexter with his siblings, six brothers Quentin, Burton, Dennis, James, Jerry and Richard and one sister Dixie. He graduated from the Elkton High School in 1954 where he played football, basketball and was a captain of his baseball team. He was the vice president of his senior class and was active in theatre. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed as a radio operator on the U.S.S Calhoun County a WWII tank landing ship. He attended Mankato State College after the Navy where he received a teaching degree, later going back to get a master’s degree. Stan was employed at Nicollet High School for most of his teaching career where he taught history and business classes (including shorthand which he told me was a dead language in the late 70s and not to take it). Stan also coached Nicollet basketball and was a pitching coach for the girl’s fast pitch softball team.
Stan married the love of his life Muriel Jean Hanson on November 11, 1961. Together they had five children and moved from Nicollet to Mankato in 1967 to raise them.
Stan enjoyed watching and playing sports. He was a pitcher and played fastpitch softball for many years for the Cabin Bar in Nicollet, Flame Bar in St. Peter and CHS (what I understand he had a wicked change up). He retired from fast pitch after turning 60 years old. He played most of his career with the Cabin Bar in Nicollet and was inducted into the Mankato Area Fastpitch Hall of Fame.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents Sarah (Stenerson) and Aurville Morrow, his wife Muriel (Hanson) Morrow, Brothers Quentin and Dennis Morrow.
He is survived by his daughters Ellen Morrow, Anne (Mike) Schoenborn, sons Richard (Melanie) and Scott Morrow and his son-in-law Steve Vaubel. Grandchildren Alyssa (Justin) Stange, Trevor (Andrea) Vaubel, Britt (Melissa) Vaubel, Elizabeth Dalton, Sarah and Rebecca Schoenborn, Michael (Katie) Morrow, Melissa (Aaron) Pingel, Stephen (Cristina) Morrow, Jonathan Morrow, Athena and Cassandra Morrow and 17 great-grandchildren.
