Stanley Johnston, 91, of Angus, MN, passed away on Friday morning, May 6, 2016, surrounded by his children, in Riverview Care Center, Crookston, MN.
Stanley Leroy Johnston was born on October 13, 1924, in rural Mentor, MN, to Herbert and Anna (Madsen) Johnston. He was raised near Angus and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1941. After high school, Stanley continued to make his living farming, and on February 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to MaryAnn Fanfulik. The couple farmed and raised their family in rural Angus. MaryAnn passed away in 2002. Stanley became a resident of Riverview Care Center in 2010.
Stanley was active in his community, serving on Angus Town Board for 32 years, as well as receiving a Century Farmer Award. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid, MN. He was inducted into the Warren Bowling Hall of Fame and won numerous bowling trophies and awards over the years. In addition to being an avid bowler, Stanley collected innumerable baseball cards over his lifetime, loved watching and going to Twins games, reading, and playing cards, especially pinochle.
He is survived by his eight children, James (Janice) Johnston of Warren, Theresa (Orlyn) Gaddis of Mackay, ID, Sandra (Douglas) Camp of Merrifield, MN, Kimberly (Wayne) Moen of Ada, MN, Scott (Marian) Johnston of Lake Villa, IL, Chris Johnston of West Fargo, ND, Jill Anderson of Hillsboro, ND, and Jennifer (Dennis) Tate of Crookston; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and brother, Gene Johnston of Warren, MN.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, MaryAnn, Stanley was preceded in death by a son, Bradley; and sisters, Eleanor (Orval) Wittman, and Elaine (Morris) Maruska.
