Shirlie L Robinson

March 27, 1933

October 26, 2015

Shirlie L. Robinson (1933-2015) was born in Port Townsend, WA, the daughter of an Army MSGT Joel C and Bernice Waddell. She spent her childhood traveling and living with her army family in Puerto Rico, Fort Monroe, VA and settled in South Portland Maine when she was 8 years old. It was in this neighborhood that she first laid her eyes on the older Frederick (Bud) Robinson. When he returned from his naval duty in WWII, he also began to notice the cute college grad in the neighborhood. They began their married life together, had two sons Dana and Dion (D-Jay). The family moved to Fremont, CA in 1966 where they lived for 15 years. It was in CA that Shirlie got her Master’s Degree in Special Education and the family made precious, lifelong friends. Their home and her kitchen was always open and there were usually several extra people gathered at the family dinner table for the stories and laughter They moved back to Maine in 1980 and her precious husband, Bud, passed away in 1990. Shirlie worked in the Headstart program for many years in the Westbrook, Gorham, and Portland area. She loved her teaching career and teased that her next project was going to be “Save Cursive Writing”!! She loved to dote on her Grandchildren and God-children and was always up for an excuse to get together, cook, tell stories and laugh. She lived for 12 years at Longfellow Place in Westbrook where she also cooked for those around her and enjoyed her new friendships. She had just moved to Country Village in Casco where she was basking in the new love, care and friendships of her new home. She passed Monday afternoon, October 26th, in the loving company of her family and the kindness of Mercy Hospital hospice. This was after a long, exhausting struggle with congestive heart failure which took its toll on her body. She will be greatly missed by those she taught and loved. Her family will always smile and have a good story about the “Grandma Shirlie-isms” that she has left with us and her intense love which will be passed on for generations. We are blessed and comforted to know that she was ready for this “final adventure” and that she was looking forward to dancing her way into the gates of heaven, met by the love of her life who had gone on before. She is survived by her sons and their families; Dana and Beth Robinson and children Aaron and Vanessa Robinson, CW and Becky King and Tony Goan. Dion and Dorothy Robinson and their children Danelle and Derek Milone and Darcie and Jerred Jones. God-Children, Joseph, Nicole and great-godchildren Michael Joseph, Ollie Lucy and Parker.
