Shirley Kay Fumia, age 81, longtime resident of Hibbing, MN, was joyfully received by our Father in Heaven, Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Guardian Angels in Hibbing. She was born March 25, 1935, in Valley City, ND, the daughter of Leslie and Marian (Kennedy) Sansburn. She graduated from Valley City High School and went on to attend the Minneapolis School of Business. She was united in marriage to Vernon Golfis, and following his death was united in marriage to Sylvester “Carmen” Fumia on June 21, 1985, in Hibbing.
Shirley worked as a medical secretary in Virginia and Hibbing, and then as a secretary for the Hibbing Public Schools, until she retired. Later in her life, Shirley, would enjoy volunteering at Fairview Range Hospital in the “day surgery” area. She, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. Filled with strength and unconditional love, Shirley was a blessing to her family, friends and all she encountered. She was kind, thoughtful and above all a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest joys were time spent with family, playing bridge with many friends, sewing, knitting and traveling.
Shirley is survived by her husband: Carmen; children: Barbara (Roger) Boettcher, David (Susan) Golfis, Michael Fumia, Wanda (Jeff) Cimmermancic, Jeanne Toninato, Jim Fumia, and Mark Fumia; 18 grandchildren: Elisa (Alex) Carlson and Dylan Boettcher, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, and Sarah Golfis, Steven and Alexandra Golfis, Gina and Andrea Fumia, Christi (Steve) Estey and Nick Cimmermancic, Dominic and Mia Toninato, Danielle and Katie Fumia, and Gabrielle, Andrew and Emma Fumia; three great grandchildren: Jack, Grace and Adeline; and countless other family and friends. She has left her values of servanthood, hope and love in all of us.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband: Vernon Golfis; and two sons: Stephen and Todd Golfis.
