RUTH LOUISE FRENCH

Age 95, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012. She was born on December 31, 1916 in Portland, MI the daughter of Charles and Mary (Smith) Lockwood. Mrs. French graduated from Portland High School in 1935, and went on to receive her Bachelors Degree from Central Michigan in 1939. Ruth helped manage the Portland Country Club from 1948 to 1954. She taught physical education at Portland High School and Junior High Schools from 1952 to 1974. Ruth also coached girls basketball, track, cheerleading, as well as directed plays and sponsored classes of 1955 and 1964. She was president of the PTA, Teachers Association, ladies golf league and riding club. Preceding her in death were her parents; sons, Charles and Tom; daughter, Kathy; husband, Don; grandson, Tim; great grandaughter, Angel. Surviving are daughters, Gail (Dr. John) McDermott and Kristi (Richard) Newer; daughter-in-law, Coleen French; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.
