Roy Dennis Rice, the son of Oliver and Inga Rice was born on September 6, 1930 in Pinecreek, MN. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith on October 26, 1930 and confirmed on May 21, 1944. He grew up working on the farm with his father, and also a couple of years he worked in Hoople, ND during the fall harvest. Roy also worked at Polaris and at the Northwest Angle during the winter months cutting pulp.

In September of 1952, Roy joined the United States Army (Artillery Division) and served in the Korean War for 18 months. He was discharged in 1954 and came back to Pinecreek to farm. On July 28, 1956 Roy married Gayle Borgen in Pinecreek.

Farming was a high priority to Roy, and he also enjoyed hunting and making jewelry (Lapidary and Silversmithing).

Roy passed away on Tuesday, September 13 at his home in Pinecreek at the age of 75 years and seven days.

He is survived by his wife Gayle and children Rocky (Karen) Rice of Hunter, ND, Brian (Susan) Rice of Pinecreek, Shelley (Colin) Pearson of Roseau, Sheldon (Lorraine) Rice of Pinecreek, and Brenda Dokkin (Trent Collins) of Thief River Falls; grandchildren Eric Rice, Kristi Rice, Chad Rice, Sarah Rice, Teresa Rice, Erin Rice, Amber (Josh) Olson, Casey Pearson, Chase Pearson, Ashley Pearson, Jenna Dokkin and Nick Dokkin.; sisters Irene (Francis) Ask of Glenwood, MN, Delphine Ode of Crookston, MN, Lorraine Dye of Coon Rapids, MN, Margie (Dick) Andersen of Bemidji, MN, Evelyn (Dale) Wold of Moorhead, MN, and Kathleen (Hartley) Dahl of Elk River, MN, Brothers Dwight (Betty) Rice of St. Paul, MN and Stanley (Donna) Rice of Pinecreek. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Inga Rice, an infant brother Knut, and son-in-law Dean Dokkin.

Roy will always be remembered for his kindness to others, his love for his grandchildren and his accuracy and orderly manner of accomplishing his everyday activities and tasks. God Bless his memory.
