Roman J. Arens, age 65, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was born May 4, 1951, the eleventh child and the sixth son of Linus and Vedesta Arens. He lived all his life in Westphalia and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Romie began working for Fischer Body-GM in June of 1969 and retired in July of 2006, after 37 years of service. He was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Romie was a gentle soul. He lived life simply and was a friend to all. Romie will be remembered for his compassion and generous heart. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Al “Flick” Arens; three infant siblings, Mary Ann (1938), Joseph (1947), and Rita (1948); brother-in-law, Ronald Schneider; and sister-in-law, Kathy Arens.

Surviving are his five brothers, Ray (Mary Katherine) Arens of St. Simmons Island, Georgia, Robert (Lyndia) Arens, Leo Arens, and Stan (Judy) Arens, all of Lansing, and Gerry (Cheryl) Arens of Fowler. Surviving sisters are Helen (Bob) Skriba of Elsie, Norma (Ron) Heine of St. Louis, Mary (Bill) Castanier of Lansing, Dottie (Dale) Thelen of Fowler, and Bernadette Arens of St. Johns; sister-in-law, Alberta Arens of Alma; and many nieces and nephews.
