Roger Carl Sundbom, age 74 of Virginia died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in his home. He was born July 8, 1935 in Duluth, the son of Frans and Ruth (Pederson) Sundbom; and was a graduate of Proctor High School, Class of 1954. Roger married Teddi Fredrickson on April 6, 1957 and was a longtime resident of Virginia. He was employed by Northwestern Bell/ Qwest as a cable maintenance man and had served with the Duluth based Air National Guard. Roger was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia, the Corvair Club of America and the Head of the Lakes Corvair Association. He volunteered his time as a Special Olympics Coach and a snowmobile safety instructor; he also enjoyed cooking, “putzing” around the house, and working on cars, especially Corvairs.
Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years: Teddi; daughters: Lori Sundbom and Lynn Butler, both of Virginia; his father: Franz Sundbom; siblings: Joyce (Art) Welander of Stillwater, Phyllis (Warren) Sheldon of Michigan, Carole (Mike) Bonneville of Idaho, Sharon (Herman) Stefnik of Washington, Vern (Marilyn) Sundbom of Detroit Lakes, and Roy (Belle) Sundbom of Duluth; grandchildren: Jeremy Sundbom, Nikolas Sundbom, and Melissa Maki; great-granddaughters: Madison and Zoey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Ruth; and brother: Rallin Sundbom.
