Roger Albert Sindelir, 70 of Baudette, MN died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Roger was born April 28, 1936 to Godfrey and Emma (Harazin) Sindelir in Olivia, MN, the family moved to Pitt, MN area when he was only 3 months old. Roger’s years through school were spent on the family 120 acre farm clearing land and logging with his father. Music was a part of the family life style, Godfrey having a band and Emma also playing the accordion. Roger at the age of 12 along with his brother, Clarence and friend Leon Boomgaarden organized a band performing in the area nearly every weekend. Being members of the 4-H, the group traveled with the county agent Royal Anderson to Crookston, MN to play music during a farm program Mr. Anderson was hosting over the air from the radio station KROX.

Roger entered the US Navy in 1954 and served during the Korean Conflict his duty included being a radio operator aboard various ships including the destroyer, USS Stephen Potter, which the movie “The Deep Six” was filmed. In July of 1958, Roger was discharged from the US Navy and he returned back to Baudette.

Roger married Sandra Moorhead on June 18, 1960 at the First Lutheran Church in Baudette. He was employed at the Baudette Creamery as well as several oil companies before becoming the Sears Catalog Merchant for 18 years. Due to health problems Roger sold the Sears franchise. Later he and Sandra were both employed at Marvin Windows of Warroad and further health problems forced Roger into early retirement.

Roger served the Baudette area as President of The Chamber of Commerce, school board director, house committee of the VFW and American Legion where he was a life member of both the VFW and American Legion. He was a Boy Scout leader, arena board of directors and he was the press box announcer for many years, hockey coach, founded and developed the old timer’s softball program and American Legion baseball manager. He was very active with the county fair, he served as the director and Sec./ Treas. of the Lake of the Woods County fair board and Minnesota’s 9th District Director for the Federation of county fairs, he also served on the Minnesota State Fair Board.

Roger’s musical talent had him in 6 different bands and doing back up for others from out of the area. He is also a member of the Minnesota Steel Guitar Association. Some of the bands include names like these and many others, the Vagabond’s, Sundowner’s, Checkmate’s, Swamp Hollow, Cedar Spur and the Sindelir Band. He had a great love for music and his entire life, may his music forever be eternal.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Nigal; a father in-law, Curt Moorhead and sister in-laws, Betty Ann and Carol.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Baudette; his children, Bradford (JoAnn) Sindelir of Montgomery, MN; Mark (Trisha) Sindelir of Baudette; Bruce Sindelir of Roseville, MN; Candyce Sindelir of Baudette; T.J. (Darcie) Sindelir of New Prague, MN and Jody (Robert) Solo of Williams, MN; his grandchildren Alex, Sam, Devan, Donovan, Tori, Mikalea, Brooke, Bryna, Beau, Brittany, Lindsey, Cody, Taylor, Tessa, Gerald, and Garrick; his brother, Clarence Sindelir of Baudette and his sister, Donna (Fred) Erickson of Baudette.
