Roger J. van Dyke, age 65, of Bella Vista, AR and formerly of Hibbing, MN, died peacefully at home Sunday, June 2, 2019, in the arms of his beloved wife, Renee, and with his “little buddy” Rocky Dog at his side following a brief, courageous battle with glioblastoma multiforme (brain cancer). He was born June 30, 1953, in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Martin and Mildred (Orr) van Dyke. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School, and went on to attend Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA and St. Cloud Vo-Tech Institute with a degree in Water & Wastewater Management. He was united in marriage to Renee Ann Kampen on April 25, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing.
Roger worked at National Steel and KeeTac. He retired as planning coordinator in the Concentrator from KeeTac on June 30, 2018. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista and formerly a member of the Congregation of the Good Shepherd Church in Keewatin where he served as a Council Elder and Czar of Maintenance.
Roger was active with the Boy Scouts having served as Cub Master of Cobb Cook Pack 22, Asst. Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of OSLC Troup 17, Scoutmaster of the Headwaters Area Council Contingent to the National Jamboree in 1993 to Washington, D.C., and received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #255 AF&AM in Hibbing, the Hibbing Jaycees, and the Hibbing Elks Lodge. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, woodworking, time with friends out at the cabin, and exploring his new home in Northwest Arkansas. He especially enjoyed volunteering his time with Autumn’s ReRide Youth Ranch in Bentonville, AR – working with rescue horses & children to provide a faith-based healing environment filled with hope.
Roger is survived by the love of his life: Renee; children: Ryan van Dyke of Hibbing, Christopher van Dyke of Hibbing, Adrienne Saler (Matthew) of Minnedosa, Manitoba, Canada, Neva Wagner (Bridgit Albright) of Chicago, IL, and Siri Wagner of Mexico, MO; brother: Martin (Carol) van Dyke of Andover, MN; grandchildren: Clara, Natalie, Everett, and Taneli; and his fur babies: Rocky and Angel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother: Jan van Dyke.
