Rodney Ellsworth Sawyer passed away peacefully on September 21, with his family by his side at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice.
Rodney was born in Parsonsfield, ME on February 20, 1934. He was the son of Sewall and Doris Sawyer. Rodney graduated from Porter High School in 1952. After high school he served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic.
After his service career, Rodney settled in Windham, where he started a family and began his career as a real estate agent. He eventually owned and operated his own real estate agency, Windham Realty. In addition, he fulfilled his passion for politics, and his desire for public service, by serving on the Windham Town Council for almost a decade.
Rodney was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his dedicated, loving wife, Lois Sawyer of Gorham, NH, son Rodrick Sawyer of Windham, daughters Robin Sawyer of Springvale and Tracy Sawyer of Portland, stepsons Gary Kent of Bedford, MA, Scott Kent of Amherst, NH, and Jeffrey Kent of Norwell, MA. Rodney is also survived by his brothers Gene Sawyer of Porter and Harold Sawyer of South Hiram. In addition, he leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In his retirement years, Rodney and Lois traveled throughout the United States in their RV. They settled in Gorham, NH, where they enjoyed running, canoeing, hiking and camping.
Rodney was a hard working businessman a” professional and detail focused to the very end – who could appear imposing, but all who knew him well would agree he was gentle and kind hearted.
