Robert “Bob” P. Scherer, an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16th with his beloved family by his side. Born on October 2′ 1932 in Port Jefferson, New York to Henry and Katherine Scherer, he joined sister, Dorothy Scherer Hammond, and brother Richard, now deceased. After Bob graduated from Bayport High School, he started work as a draftsman at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island. He joined the Navy in 1951, serving his country as an electronics technician aboard the USS Corregidor and the USS Tripoli. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1954. Bob met the love of his life, Penelope “Penny” Ewing in 1954. They were married July 14th, 1956 in Sayville, NY. So very proud to become a father, son Keith was the first to arrive on the scene with Eric following shortly after. Keith and wife, Susan Arbaugh Scherer reside in N. Windham. Eric and wife, Brenda Bryant Scherer live in Jefferson. Bob is further blessed with grandchildren, Ashleigh, Keith’s daughter, Susan’s sons, Josh and Ethan, and Eric and Brenda’s sons, Kyle and Devin. Bob was a fisherman, an outdoorsman, and a bit of an adventurer, but he had other talents. He was a creative woodworker and an artistic taxidermist. One of his greatest achievements was the building of his own home. But most loved of these was fishing, and that became his career. He started quohogging on Long Island.
