Loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on August 16, 2012. He was born on October 8, 1930 in Westphalia the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Miller) Hengesbach. Robert was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, was a CCD teacher and on the building committee for the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. He served on the first school board of Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools. He served as a 2nd Lt. in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. Robert attended G.M.I. in Flint and worked for General Motors, Oldsmobile Division for 33 years. He was a jack-of-all trades always ‘tinkering” with different projects. He enjoyed gardening/his yard, being at the cottage, crossword puzzles and especially loved being with his family. He loved Notre Dame football and watching all sport events especially his grandchildren’s. On July 26, 1952 he married Harriet Ann Thelen. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis II; sister, Sr. Angelica (Ruth) Hengesbach; brother-in-law, Tom Simon. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Harriet; children Darrell (Marlene), Duane (Rhonda), Dean (Leanne), Darwin (Lori), Dawn (Ron) Pline, Darren (Melonie), Dane (Diana); 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Ted (Rose Marie); sisters-in-law Evelyn Hengesbach, Bernie Simon, Mary Ellen (Don) Schneider; brother-in-law, Don (Georgene) Thelen; many nieces and nephews.
