Robert C. Hodgkins, 84 of Jefferson, passed away on the morning of February 11th at the LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta, after a lengthy period of declining health. He was born January 24, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York the son of Chester and Aini Hodgkins. He graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1949 and enteoutred the Air Force in 1950. In December of 1952 he married Nancy Buchan. He spent many years working with his brother-in-law, Austin Pinkham , doing carpentry work. In later years he worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter until his retirement. He was a devoted husband, loving father and a good provider. He loved working the land and spent much of his free time planting vegetable gardens, cutting firewood and logs for lumber. He remodeled the family farmhouse and built a barn, fenced the fields and then raised cattle, sheep and other animals. An avid sportsman he enjoyed everything about the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and taking walks, in later years often accompanied by a faithful springer spaniel named Jessie. He especially cherished time spent with his great grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and always shared stories and insights he had learned from years of careful observation. The stories became a staple to be served with every family get together. He was a talented craftsmen who enjoyed woodworking in particular. He built many beautiful pieces of furniture for his home as well as working with his wife on hand crafted wooden items for her shop and for gifts. Robert is predeceased by his wife, Nancy, his sisters Eva Adkins and Marjorie Pinkham, and grandson Jeremy Dunham. He is survived by his sons, Robert, David, and Jonathan Hodgkins, daughter Deborah Dunham and husband Perley, all of Jefferson, grandchildren Jeffrey Dunham, Aaron Hodgkins, Matthew Hodgkins, and Danielle Hodgkins, great grandchildren Jeremy Hodgkins, Braeden Hodgkins, Jayden Hodgkins, Elizabeth Hodgkins and Caleb Hodgkins and many neices and nephews.
