Robert E. Sonday of Portland Michigan, died January 20th, 2013, at the age of 82. Bob was born July 22, 1930 to Edward and Anna (Heyer) Sonday in Portland Michigan. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita (Weber) Sonday, originally of Fowler. Bob was a retired union carpenter, an honorary member of the Portland VFW club, U.S. Army veteran, and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Bob helped build the Portland High School and helped remodel St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Portland. He also worked on many large construction projects in the Lansing area while working for Clark Construction. In his spare time Bob enjoyed woodworking and RV camping with his family. He enjoyed country-western and bluegrass music and attended the Wheatland Music Festival for many years. When he was younger he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his many friends. Bob will be missed by his 12 children: Kenneth Sonday of Lyons, William (Jean) Sonday of Grand Rapids, Debra (Dan) Trinter of Las Vegas, Nevada, Richard (Linda) Sonday of Portland, Patti (Steve) Townsend of Ada, Eric (Dorothy) Sonday of Lexington, Kentucky, Sandra (Steve) Lehman of St. Johns, Valerie (Michael) David of Alto, Vicki (William) Mead of Okemos, John Sonday of Portland, Sue Sonday (Steve Eissinger) of Redmond, Washington, and Kay Udry (special friend Rob Lisk) of DeWitt. Also surviving Bob is a sister, Rita Mason of Belding, brothers Leon (Alice) Sonday of Portland, Gerald (Gertie) Sonday of Portland, and James (Marsha) Sonday of Grand Ledge. Bob is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
