Robert “Bob” Charles Perkins, 61, of Steelville, MO passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born June 9, 1947 in Steelville, MO to Homer and Mary Virginia (Burroughs) Perkins.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era from 1967 until 1971.

During the years, Bob had different career paths after graduating from University of Missouri at Columbia. He was a loan officer at Peoples Bank, the Parks Director at Washington, MO, co-owner of the Viburnum Building Supply and a Real Estate Broker and Owner in Steelville.

Bob was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce and served as President two terms during the years 1994 and 1995. He also served as a member of the Steelville Civic Organization a few years ago. He served his community as the President of the City Park Board and as a member of the Park Board for many years.

Bob was a big fan of Mizzou Tiger football and basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals and was always a big supporter of all Steelville sports. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed floating the nearby rivers.

Bob always made friends very easily and will be remembered by all who knew him.

Bob will be sadly missed by his son, James “Russell” Perkins II of Columbia, MO; one sister-in-law, Marti Perkins of Naples, FL; one nephew, Bobby Joseph Perkins and wife Casey of Newnan, GA; one niece, Jamie Sweeney and husband Rob of Manningtree Essex, UK; three great nieces; a very special business associate, Alisha Ransom; many cousins, other relatives and many friends. He will also be missed by his little Yorkie dog, Tommy Polo Perkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mary Virginia Perkins and his brother Jim Perkins.
