Robert Eugene Allen passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side, Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was born May 20, 1933 in Everly, Iowa , attending school there as a boy. He married Aletha (Lea) Vogelaar in Canton, SD, on May 6, 1953. In 1957, they relocated to the Range finally settling in Makinen.
Bob worked for Erie Mining. He then started the first bulk milk route in the area. He worked as a road construction mechanic until joining Millwright Local 1348 in 1974, during which time he spent many a winter traveling the country and working with his sons until his retirement in 1994. In addition, he was a land developer, road builder and farmer. He was well known for his pig roasts, Cadillac collection, gardening, putting up wood, and great debating skills. He worked hard and taught his children to do the same. Some of his favorite leisure time activities include ice fishing and cards. His Grandchildren have many cherished memories of times with Grandpa Bob.
Bob is survived by his wife: Lea; children: Russell (Sheila) Allen of Sibley, IA, Lori (Jim Bailey) Humpreys, Randy Allen, Warren Allen, Scott Allen and Bradley Allen all of Makinen, Rodney (Shamarie) Allen of Virginia, Curtis Allen of Iron and Rudean (Bob) Keith of Makinen; Siblings: Sharon (Florance) Worden , Wayne (Mary Ellen) Allen both of Chatfield, Mn, Betty Jones of Des Moines, IA, 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son: Jerry; infant sons: Galen & Joseph; parents: Milo & Anna and siblings: Matt, Milo, Eunice, Clara, Cora, George & Dale.
