Robbie Hughes McCann, 84, of Steelville, MO passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville. She was born July 22, 1923 in Macon, Georgia to John and Laura Pauline (Mott) Hughes. In 1945, she was united in marriage to John McCann who preceded her in death January 2000.
Robbie attended A.L. Miller High School and Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. She was a radio-radar repair person at Warner Robbins Air Force Base in 1944-1945. After she and her husband, John were married they moved to Chicago, IL. She taught school in Calumet Park, IL for several years. In 1974, she moved to Tupelo, MS where her husband was transferred by FMC Corporation. In 2002, she moved to Steelville, MO.
Robbie was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, ‘Happy Hour’ Extension Club and a volunteer at Golden Echos Center.
Survivors include three children, Sharon and Kathleen McCann both of Seattle, WA and Maureen Sarles and husband Doug of Steelville, MO; nine grandchildren, Ann Panozzo, Michelle, Denise and Gregory Cora, Christopher, Matthew and Laura Sarles, JP McCann IV and Alexandra McCann; three great-grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Cora and Shyanne Young; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy McCann of Elgin, IL; two brothers, James Hughes and wife Jo and John Hughes and wife Betty Ann all of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Dee Hughes and Laura Mott Hughes, her husband, John P. McCann Jr., five sisters, Eloise Rush, Opal Cosey, Polly Deal, Marjorie Nickels and Mary Mott McCampbell and one son, John P. McCann III.
