Richard M. Novak
Richard Michael Novak, age 87, passed into eternal life April 16, 2015 in his home in New Port Richey, Florida. He was born in Monessen, Pa. and relocated with his parents to Michigan during his childhood. After graduating from St. Anthony’s High School in Detroit in 1945, Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout his five years in the Marines, Richard served overseas in Guam, China, Korea, and Japan, during the Korean Conflict. He rose to Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1951.
After the military, he became an officer with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. During his law enforcement career, he held many positions of increased responsibility with command over the Road Patrol, Airport, Jail, Marine Unit Patrol, Narcotics Division and Dignitary Protection. He received numerous awards and honors during his 38 year law enforcement career before his retirement as Undersheriff in 1987. Richard and his wife Linda became permanent residents of Florida in 1997 to enjoy the warmer climate and the outdoors year round.
Richard is survived by his wife, Linda of 43 years, daughter Ann (Dennis) of Livonia, MI., sons Michael (Judy) of Centreville, VA and Richard (Vicki) of Farmington Hills, MI, as well as grandchildren including Matthew and Johnathon (deceased) Pauley, and Samantha, Stephanie, Andrew, Megan, and Melissa Novak. Preceded in death by his parents Michael John and Anna Rita Novak.
