Richard Lewis Silliman January 14, 1932 – June 30, 2011
Thomas Campbell wrote “To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.” From June 30, 2011, Richard Lewis Silliman, “Dick”, will live on in the hearts of those who love him so very much.
Born in Oneonta, New York in 1932, the son of Gertrude and Morton Silliman, Dick moved to Midland, Michigan in the late 1950’s to work for the Dow Corning Corporation. He was employed for over 30 years as a Pension and Benefits Consultant. Dick loved to read and travel, but most of all he loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed being with his grandchildren, including supporting them in their musical, school, and sporting events. “Papa” rarely missed a game whether home or away.
Dick lives on in the hearts of friends and family–his wife of 31 years, Marlene Silliman; sons, Mark (Pam) Silliman, Scott Silliman, and Richard Rose Bissell; daughter, Diane Bissell; granddaughters, Samantha Rose and Chelsea Lynn Bissell; grandsons, Ryan, Thomas and Justin Silliman, John and Paul Carley, and Michael (fiancé Naomi) Sinn; great grandson, Ethan Sinn; and brother-in-law, Kenneth (Lulu) Downing.
Dick was gentle, kind and loving. Words cannot convey how much he will be missed.
