Richard John Smokey, age 80, lifelong resident of Virginia and Britt died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at his home in Britt. He was born June 16, 1934, in Virginia the son of Nick and Agnes (Kupka) Smokey. He graduated from Virginia High School. Richard was united in marriage to Joanne Grulke on October 23, 1955. They were married 51 years.
Richard worked for US Steel, Minntac, and retired after nearly 45 years of service. He also worked part-time for Hejda’s TV Sales in Virginia. He was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Virginia. Richard was also active with Thrivent, and with the Sand Lake Shuffle. He enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins, and had a long-time interest in cars and electronics.
